Veins & Vascular Treatment

The best and gold standard treatment for reducing the appearance of face veins, leg veins, birthmarks and vascular concerns in fewer sessions and with better results than other methods. spider.  Dr. Julie Reil is board certified in Laser Medicine and has over 16 years experience treating face and leg veins using the YAG laser.  Laser vein treatment is very precise and is an effective way to treat superficial red veins as well as deeper blue and green veins. Laser therapy for veins and vascular growths has been used in medicine for more than 30 years.

FACE VEINS

Facial veins, or broken capillaries, usually appear on the nose, chin, and cheeks. While facial veins typically don’t cause pain or discomfort, they may make you self-conscious.

  • Telangiectasia are small, widened blood vessels on the skin that commonly present on the face
  • Spider Veins
  • Venous Lakes
  • Rosacea and redness are other vascular concerns that can also be treated with YAG laser

LEG VEINS

The acceleration of gravity draws blood to the leg veins, especially if one is regularly sitting or standing for long periods of time. As a result, blood pressure in the legs’ veins constricts the veins and causes them to be visible on the surface.

Family history and History of Pregnancy are common contributors to the likelihood of abnormal Leg Veins developing.

  • Spider Veins are damaged blood vessels just beneath the surface of the skin that commonly present on the legs
  • Blue Reticular Veins
  • Green Reticular Veins
  • Varicose Veins are twisted, enlarged veins that are more severe than spider veins and may require advanced light assisted sclerotherapy treatment.

BIRTHMARKS

Birthmarks vary in type, color and size but are typically vascular in nature and can be effectively treated with a medical laser. YAG laser treats benign vascular lesions through coagulation and hemostasis with minimal discomfort.

  • Cherry Angiomas or Hemangiomaspresent as a colored raised outgrowth that is common in newborns and children.  This is a vascular growth composed of multiple layers of blood vessels. The vascular area slowly recedes or reabsorbs into the body over several weeks after YAG laser treatment.  Meticulous cooling before and after minimizes pain and eliminates risk of blistering from laser treatment.  The patient feels the laser pulse and a brief sensation of heat.
  • Port-wine stains vary greatly in size and depth and can include confluent capillaries. Sometimes venous lakes are present, and rarely dense tuberous regions can be found within the area.  Several YAG laser treatments are required for Port-wine stain areas, and treatments are spaced 6 weeks apart.
  • Venous Lakes are small collections of capillary and superficial venules that are common on the lips and can be found anywhere on the body.  Some venous lakes get larger with time or can break open and bleed, which is a common reason people come for YAG laser treatment of venous lakes.  Laser treatment of venous lakes is very straight forward, quick and relatively painless. Final results are typically seen 6-8 weeks after one treatment when the veins completely shut down and are reabsorbed.

Treatment Information

Bothered by unsightly small veins on your face, the side of your nose or on the thighs or legs? Spider veins (or telangiectasias) are those small red, blue, and purple blood vessels that do not cause symptoms and are of cosmetic concern only.   Unsightly face and leg veins can now be treated safely and very effectively with the YAG laser. No more painful injections and wrapping the legs in Ace bandages!

Our vascular laser system treats a broad range of vessels from tiny spider veins to blue reticular veins quickly, safely, and effectively. Patients can experience outstanding results with minimal bruising or blistering.   The YAG laser, operated exclusively by our licensed medical practitioner, delivers a pulse of light energy causing the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by the body. Blood flow will then gradually while the vein is slowly shut down, be redirected to veins deeper below your skin surface, without creating backpressure.

What to expect from treatment

Over a period of four to eight weeks for face veins and eight to sixteen weeks for leg veins, the vein is reabsorbed by the body and disappears. Most of the treated veins will disappear with the first treatment.  The deeper vessels (the under-feeder vessels) are the primary target.  Once the deeper vessels fully reabsorb, which takes 2 to 4 months, additional treatment may be done for any remaining veins, which are usually the more superficial spider veins. The average patient has two treatments in series for optimal results.  Vein treatments give the best results when done during non-sunny months, when skin is not tanned and not exposed to direct sunshine.

The skin above the veins will have a reddish, cat-scratch appearance for superficial vessels, and for deeper vessels the skin may have a purple spot where the blood coagulates temporarily. This generally disappears over the next two days. The risks associated with laser vein therapy are minimal.  Shiloh Medical Clinic uses lasers with state-of-the-art cooling systems; thus, the treatments are low risk and relatively pain-free.
